Future-Funded Ministry

A Christian Perspective on Retirement

As Christians, we’ve surrendered our right to live for ourselves and now live for Him. How do we apply that counter-cultural attitude to retirement? Developing a retirement plan with Him in mind can change your life!

What is retirement? That depends on your perspective. At Envoy, we see retirement as not only a reward for past service, but a stepping-stone to future ministry. Your retirement years are also “ministry” or “service” years, so we call your “retirement plan” your “Future-Funded Ministry” plan. FFMP: A Future-Funded Ministry Plan. Managing God’s resources in God’s way so His purposes can be carried out in and through my life, to the very end. What an exciting way to live!

To help you get started thinking about your “Future-Funded Ministry” plan, consider these words: Dream, Save, Serve.

What are your dreams for retirement? When the paycheck stops, if you have enough, you can:

  • Go on mission trips to reach people for Christ and minister His love around the world
  • Volunteer and serve with local or international ministries
  • Spend quality time with family and friends
  • Help plant a church
  • And so much more!

How will you save enough for your retirement years?

  • Make sure you start! If you haven't saved anything yet, start now!! Whatever your age, put some of your earnings away for retirement. The later you start, the more you’ll need to save as it won't have as long to build and grow.
  • We’re living longer; many of us will live 20-30 years in retirement. That’s a lot of years to save for!
  • Understand your role. The gilded days of company pension plans are gone for most workers. Saving for your retirement is now your responsibility. The tax incentives and benefits are there to help you save today so you have enough in retirement.
  • Set realistic and achievable savings goals tied to your dreams. This will help you stay committed to saving even when other expenses arise.

Where will you serve in retirement?

  • Thinking about retirement as an opportunity to extend or increase your serving the Kingdom is counter-cultural. But, it's very exciting to think about God's purposes being carried out through you during your retirement years!
  • Having enough will allow you to go where He leads during this life stage. He can open new opportunities for you to contribute, share, mentor, encourage, and support existing leaders and emerging ministries.

Dream. Save. Serve. Some call it retirement. We call it FFMP. The freedom to serve.
